"This was taken as a publicity photo by the studio when I did the voice of Axis Sally during the first major Bob Mitchum film, "The Story of G. I. Joe". Pinup girls showed up everywhere during the war: on posters, on the fuselage of planes, on lockers--everywhere. So, when I was asked to do pin-up pictures for studio publicity, I was delighted to comply. I showed up at the beach on a chilly day in my yellow, two-piece, side-laced swimsuit--the bikini of its day. I was ready for the studio photographer. And he was ready for me. Looking closely at the original photograph, however, you can almost see the gooseflesh. It was really chilly that day!...I was named "Miss C-54" by the military--a big deal!" - Shelly

The Anita O'Day Tribute, The Jazz Bakery, L. A. "Hearing The Queen of Jazz say your performance was 'Cool' was sort of like a Member of Parliament being knighted by The Queen of England! Iıve never considered myself strictly a jazz singer. My world is cabaret--where I combine some elements of jazz with the intimacy of cabaret. Perhaps thatıs why, for me, Cabaret/Jazz is a state of mind--an abstract to be shared." - Shelly

Backstage at The Plush Room..."Shanna Carlson and Spider Saloff (in alphbetical order!) made producing and performing with 'Sophisticated Ladies' a joy for me. Each is 100% professional, enormously talented and, above all, committed to connecting with her audience. When we perform individually, we three are sophisticated, as in the dictionary definition: 'altered by education, experience, so as to be worldly wise...', not to be confused with world-weary. On the contrary, together, backstage, we are three exuberant performers who are bonded by our love of fun, and by our love of music. If laughter is contagious, we share a severe case of good humor!" - Shelly
